The Paseo Miramar Trail is a moderately difficult hike in Pacific Palisades, with stunning, nearly 360 views of Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day, you can even see Catalina Island! The hike is about 5 miles roundtrip and mostly uphill but the view is well worth it. There's minimal shade so be sure to bring an ample supply of sunscreen and water!

Dr. Daniel McKenzie is an Adjunct Assistant Professor within the Mathematics Department at UCLA. His research interests are on the intersection of Machine Learning and Data Science. In particular he is currently working on graph-based semi-supervised learning and derivative free optimization. He enjoys teaching both lower division and upper division courses, and is currently teaching Mathematical Methods of Data Theory. Prior to arriving in LA Dr. McKenzie was a graduate student at the University of Georgia, and prior to that he was an undergraduate at the University of Cape Town, in South Africa. Outside of math he enjoys hiking (obviously!), surfing, reading and watching cricket and college football.
