From Moodboard to Mannequin: A Beginner’s Guide to Projection Mapping

Sun 25 Oct 2026 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM GMT The Hub, SE15 5FB

This beginner-friendly workshop invites artists, illustrators, fashion enthusiasts and anyone curious about creative technology to transform hand-drawn fashion illustrations into projection-mapped digital artworks.

Participants will create their own fashion illustration using a provided template, before learning how to digitise and projection-map their design onto a three-dimensional mannequin using Map Club, a free, open-source web-based mapping tool.

You’ll be guided through the process from start to finish, including photographing your artwork with a smartphone, preparing images for projection, setting up a projector and masking projections to fit a mannequin.

No previous technical experience is required. The workshop takes a playful, hands-on approach to creative computing, with opportunities to work individually or collaboratively and experiment at your own pace. By the end of the session, you’ll have gained practical projection-mapping skills and explored new ways of presenting visual art.

The workshop concludes with a collective showcase of participants’ projected designs, celebrating the variety of creative outcomes produced during the session.

Originally developed and delivered by Amber Lucia as part of a public programme co-created with the V&A Youth Collective.

Workshop requirements:
A smartphone is recommended so you can photograph your artwork, but you can also have this done for you if needed.

If you would like to experiment directly with Map Club, you are welcome to bring your own laptop or tablet. No personal device is required to take part, as group activities and live demonstrations will allow everyone to participate.

No software installation is required in advance. Any software used during the workshop will be introduced and demonstrated during the session.

About Amber Lucia:
Amber Lucia is a Brighton-based multidisciplinary artist and creative facilitator working at the intersection of contemporary art and technology. Blending digital and analogue processes, they work across moving image, installation and interactive media, exploring internal emotional states, identity, belonging and shared human experiences. Their practice combines traditional ‘human-made’ processes with creative technology, informed by their lived experiences as a working-class, queer, non-binary, neurodivergent, disabled person of colour.

Their recent work includes co-designing creative workshops for ‘curate-a-core’ with the V&A Museum’s Youth Collective and showcasing work through PORTALS: Worlds Made to Explore, an immersive design programme at the V&A Museum for emerging creatives, and completing a six-month Artist Residency with Brighton Festival’s 2025 Our Place programme.

They are particularly interested in how creativity can amplify unheard voices within communities, empower individuals to express themselves through the arts, and create embodied spaces for shared understanding.
