Explore Stackpole: A Day of Discovery and Connection

As part of the 2025 Environmental Training Events series, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore the stunning coastline of Stackpole Estate and its surroundings through a guided outdoor walk, complemented by expert talks. This open event is ideal for members of the public, outdoor activity providers, and anyone passionate about the natural and cultural heritage of the area.

Event Highlights:

  • Morning Discovery Walk: Learn about the historical, cultural, and environmental significance of key locations near Stackpole Quay, including the beautiful Barafundle Bay and the historic Stackpole Court. Explore the rich biodiversity of the area, along with its fascinating cultural and natural heritage.
  • Afternoon Venue Deep Dive: Gain insights into best practices for outdoor activities in the region, covering routes, access points, and local landmarks. Discussions will also address the interaction between outdoor activity guides and sensitive wildlife, and how to protect these valuable coastal environments.

Enjoy opportunities to stop, learn, and engage at key sites along the walk, fostering a deeper connection between the community, activity providers, and the natural world.

Speaker Spotlight:

Sid Howells Geologist – Geological & Educational Services

Sid Howells Geologist – Geological & Educational Services: Local geologist, Sid Howells, has spent over 40 years working in industry, conservation, research and education in Britain and overseas. As a former FSC peripatetic geology/geography fieldwork tutor and Regional Earth Scientist (Pembs, Carms, Gower & Neath-Port Talbot) for Countryside Council for Wales, Sid is an experienced speaker and bases his talks on an extensive collection of photos he has taken from land, sea and air.

Chris Taylor – Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) Ranger

Chris Taylor – Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) Ranger: Chris worked on the Islands of Skomer and Skokholm where he developed a passion for seabirds. This took him to work with the RSPB doing seabird tracking on Orkney Islands and as a field assistant on the seabird mecca of Gough Island in the South Atlantic. After much travel he has returned to Pembrokeshire where he now works as an Area Ranger for the National Park.

Paul Culyer – Senior Officer Land Management at Natural Resources Wales: Paul Culyer has dedicated his career to nature conservation since 1991, earning a degree in Environmental Science from Aberystwyth University. For 28 years, he has managed National Nature Reserves for CCW and now NRW, working in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. He collaborates with the National Trust and Ministry of Defence on conservation efforts and oversees seabird and chough monitoring. Paul also manages the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. Formerly Chair of PONT Cymru, he now serves as Chair of the Wildlife Trust South and West Wales.

Fel rhan o’r gyfres Diwrnodau Hyfforddiant Amgylcheddol 2025, mae’r digwyddiad hwn yn cynnig cyfle unigryw i archwilio arfordir godidog Bae Ystangbwll, drwy daith gerdded awyr agored wedi’i thywys yng nghwmni detholiad o siaradwyr arbenigol.

Mae’r digwyddiad agored hwn yn ddelfrydol ar gyfer aelodau’r cyhoedd, darparwyr gweithgareddau awyr agored, ac unrhyw un sy’n angerddol am dreftadaeth naturiol a diwylliannol yr ardal.

Archwiliwch fioamrywiaeth gyfoethog yr ardal, ynghyd â’i threftadaeth ddiwylliannol a naturiol hynod ddiddorol.
  • Archwiliad Dwfn Lleoliad y Prynhawn: Cewch fewnwelediad i arferion gorau ar gyfer gweithgareddau awyr agored yn y rhanbarth, gan gwmpasu llwybrau, pwyntiau mynediad, a thirnodau lleol. Bydd trafodaethau hefyd yn mynd i'r afael â'r rhyngweithio rhwng canllawiau gweithgareddau awyr agored a bywyd gwyllt sensitif, a sut i warchod yr amgylcheddau arfordirol gwerthfawr hyn.

Trwy gydol y digwyddiad, mwynhewch gyfleoedd i oedi, arsylwi a dysgu mewn safleoedd allweddol ar hyd y daith gerdded.
