Pembrokeshire Marine Code Event - Signs of Disturbance

As part of the 2025 Environmental Training Event series, this event provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the signs of disturbance in coastal marine life. Join expert speakers and guides for a day focused on understanding how human activity impacts wildlife and learning practical strategies to minimise disturbances, ensuring the preservation of our coastal ecosystems and biodiversity.

Event Highlights:

• Morning Expert Presentations: Discover how to recognise the signs of wildlife disturbance, understand its far-reaching impacts, and explore effective strategies to minimise human-induced disruptions. This comprehensive session will feature leading experts who specialise in seabirds, cetaceans, and seals, offering in-depth presentations on their respective fields. Gain valuable knowledge on how to protect these vulnerable species and promote responsible wildlife interactions.

• Afternoon Coastal Walk: Join wildlife experts for an immersive exploration of the coastline, where you'll develop key skills in species identification, learn best practices for responsible wildlife observation, and gain insight into the habitats of sensitive species. Step aboard the Gower Ranger with our expert speakers for a scenic tour around the stunning island of Ramsey. This unforgettable journey will bring the morning’s learning to life, offering a rare opportunity to witness first-hand the incredible species we strive to protect. (Tickets are limited for this portion of the event)

This event is open to all, especially coastal users, guides, and activity providers, offering valuable knowledge to enhance responsible and sustainable enjoyment of our coastlines.

Not available all day? Join us for the morning session (10am–1pm) to hear expert presentations on our wonderous marine life, and how to mitigate disturbance! Please indicate your preference when booking, and if you wish to attend the full day then make sure to select the correct option when booking. Spaces are limited for the afternoon boat trip, so these places will only be open to people attending the full workshop.

Speaker Spotlight:

Nadia Tomsa - Projects Manager at SeaTrust: Nadia is a Marine Biologist and Projects Manager at Sea Trust Wales. Nadia oversees Sea Trust’s conservation, research, and education projects. She also supports and coordinates all staff, interns, and volunteers. Nadia is particularly passionate about the importance of community education and engagement in the protection of our ocean. Despite spending her work life studying cetaceans, Nadia is still amazed every time she sees a dolphin or porpoise!

Ffion Rees - Skipper and Naturalist at Falcon Boats: Ffion has worked as a skipper and naturalist for 25 years, running guided wildlife boat trips around the Welsh coast and eventually setting up her own boat company, Falcon Boats. She spends winters working on expedition ships as a zodiac driver and lecturer all over the world and completed her first Antarctic season last year. This breadth of experience puts Ffion in a unique position to provide insight into the precious ecosystems around our coast.

Bydd y sesiwn gynhwysfawr hon yn cynnwys arbenigwyr blaenllaw sy'n arbenigo mewn adar môr, morfilod, a morloi, gan gynnig cyflwyniadau manwl ar eu priod feysydd. Enillwch wybodaeth werthfawr am sut i warchod y rhywogaethau bregus hyn a hyrwyddo rhyngweithiadau bywyd gwyllt cyfrifol.

• Taith Gwch y Prynhawn: Ymunwch ag arbenigwyr bywyd gwyllt ar gyfer archwiliad trochi o'r arfordir, lle byddwch yn datblygu sgiliau allweddol mewn adnabod rhywogaethau, dysgu arferion gorau ar gyfer arsylwi bywyd gwyllt cyfrifol, a chael mewnwelediad i gynefinoedd rhywogaethau sensitif. Camwch ar fwrdd y Gower Ranger gyda’n siaradwyr arbenigol am daith olygfaol o amgylch ynys syfrdanol Ynys Dewi. Bydd y daith fythgofiadwy hon yn dod â dysg y bore yn fyw, gan gynnig cyfle prin i weld yn uniongyrchol y rhywogaethau anhygoel yr ydym yn ymdrechu i’w gwarchod. Mae'n treulio gaeafau yn gweithio ar longau alldaith fel gyrrwr zodiac a darlithydd ar hyd a lled y byd a chwblhaodd ei thymor Antarctig cyntaf y llynedd.
