About Loneliness at Work
While loneliness at work is an incredibly common experience, it also remains quite a taboo topic. People experiencing loneliness can feel it’s very difficult to bring up with their colleagues, while others can feel awkward when the topic comes up. Research over the last few decades has illustrated the importance of good social connection in the workplace - our relationships really matter. Loneliness can impact our productivity, interpersonal behaviour, and even our immune system. This means loneliness and connection should be on the agenda for everyone with management and leadership responsibilities.
Richard recently worked with New Zealand academic Dr. Sarah Wright to create a free guide for individuals to beat the loneliness cycle. ‘Connect and Thrive’ explores the roots of loneliness, the importance of interpersonal connection and simple steps anyone can take to create new, deeper connections with those around them. The free guide and accompanying resources can be downloaded from: WorkLifePsych.com/connectandthrive
