Performa Choreographic Incubator 006
A south Philadelphia “campus” experience
January 4–9, 2027 | This week-long engagement activates architectural space to support emerging performance ideas with two studios, documentation, and resources for development. Artists will generate original, body based movement material independently and collaboratively, on their own terms in a community setting. Participants gain access to two daily sessions:
First, a 95-min guided contemplative creation process from 11 AM - 1 PM (with a break) at a new site by Equilibrium Dance Academy. Followed by collaborative open studio from 3 - 6 PM at nearby Ginko Center. Concludes with two free, public work-in-progress performances Jan 8 + 9 at Ginko Center.
Artists are highly encouraged to reserve the full week, or as much as they can, to generate new performance by utilizing their surroundings to invigorate their process: Free Library, ample transportation, meeting space, and local neighborhood whimsy. Dress warm and bring snacks!

Instructor Info:
Adam Kerbel (he/him/el) is a performer, choreographer, and educator based in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. His work spans dance, improvisation, and live interaction in social space as tools for human messiness, reflection, and memory preservation. Off-beat and playfully serious, his dances blend contemporary movement, live participation, and a non sequitur compositional tone that invites kinetic interest. He established Performa Choreographic Incubator in 2024 as a community access model that reduces the costs of making new dance. Presentations of Kerbel’s work includes: The Music Center, Bates Dance Festival, The Wende Museum, Breaking Walls Festival, Philadelphia Dance Projects, Workshop Foundation, Baza Space for Choreographic Research, Skirball LA, New York Live Arts-Fresh Tracks, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Cannonball, Almanac Projects, and The Shalom Center.
