Beginner Furniture Restoration & Woodcare Workshop | London
Learn the fundamentals of wooden furniture restoration in this small-group, hands-on workshop in London.
This session introduces the core tools, materials, and techniques used to revive tired wood, with a focus on building confidence and understanding the restoration process. You’ll work step-by-step on a practice piece, learning how to assess damage, prep surfaces, and apply professional finishes.
Because furniture restoration requires patience and detail, the emphasis of this introductory workshop is on mastering core techniques rather than rushing to complete a massive project. By the end of the session, you’ll understand how to treat scratches, stains, and worn finishes, giving you the knowledge to confidently start restoring your own pieces independently at home.
Each ticket includes 1 practical session covering stages of wood restoration.
Who This Is For
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as DIY enthusiasts looking to build confidence before tackling their own furniture projects. It’s particularly well-suited to anyone interested in vintage furniture, interior styling, or sustainable craft skills.
What you will learn
We will work in small groups of no more than 5 people per workshop, to ensure you can learn at your own pace and follow every step of the process. We will help you understand the reasoning behind each step and give you the skills needed to continue projects at home.
You will work on a wooden item provided by us, which you will restore using different methods, depending on the item. If you'd like to purchase your piece to take home, please let us know before hand, and we will do our best to provide a piece that suits your needs.
The sessions will cover the following:
• Cleaning
• Sanding
• Staining
• Sealing (sealer varies)
• Correct usage of tools
• Correct usage of materials
• The finishing touches
By the end of the session, you should be able to:
- Understand which tools and materials for safe stripping and sanding.
- Handle restoration tools correctly to avoid damaging the wood or yourself.
- Repair or camouflage minor surface defects like peeling finish, scratches, water rings, etc.
- Apply basic finishes such as varnish, oil, or stain confidently.
All the tools we use are basic and easy to buy for your own projects at home.
