Description
Philadelphia Dance Projects presents with the world premiere of Disposable Bodies, an installation/dancework created by award-winning 2022 Guggenheim Fellow Silvana Cardell and performed by Cardell Dance Theater, October 27-30, 2022. Presented in partnership with Taller Puertorriqueno as a series of episodic installations, the performance of Disposable Bodies unfolds in layers of sound, movement, and images. An oversized animal sculpture represents the intensity of life and the ultimate “other.” Questioning the categorization of protected versus abandoned lives, Cardell examines anthropocentric narratives, illuminating an urgent conversation about new relationships to other species in the world we inhabit.
Choreographer, Silvana Cardell, a 2022 Guggenheim Fellow in The Creative Arts: Choreography, has created and presented work in her native Argentina, the US and internationally. The Philadelphia-based choreographer, director, dancer and educator holds a BFA in Dance from the University of the Arts and an MFA in Choreography from Temple University. Since 2009 she has been an Associate Professor and the Director/Chair of the Dance Program at Georgian Court University.
