Description
Photo Museum Ireland is delighted to present a Masterclass and peer to peer review session led by acclaimed photographer Trish Morrissey.
Trish Morrissey was born in Dublin and lives and works in the UK. Her practice combines performance, photography, and film, using archival research and her own biography as points of departure to develop and play real and fictional characters and explore ideas around family, the roles of women, and the body. Morrissey appears in her photographs and films, sometimes performing all the roles herself, and often chooses characters with whom she identifies. This creates a kind of 'autofiction' whereby experiences from her own life are explored through the stories of others.
Workshop and peer to peer review session.
In this fun and dynamic workshop, we will be investigating story telling techniques, using pictures/clothes/objects brought in by students, we will look at various methods of finding and performing characters. These techniques can be used to develop fictional scenarios for multiple photographic and film uses, including fashion and portraiture. Students are also invited to present their projects, past, present or future for a peer to peer group session led by Trish Morrissey.
Students to bring:
1. Items of clothing and an object/personal effect/prop picked up from a charity shop/jumble sale, something to spark the imagination. Other clothes/props from home can be brought too.
2. Each student to bring a photograph of a person they don’t know, a portrait that interests you, that you are drawn to, and a character that you find intriguing. Can be from the web/pinterest/someone’s family album/charity shop etc, or it can be a photograph you have made/taken of someone you don’t know/street photograph/anonymous.
