History of Irish Photography Lecture Series - Full Pass
Photo Museum Ireland presents a new season of evening lectures that will introduce the compelling story of photography in Ireland. These lectures are delivered as part of our after-hours platform for people to meet and discover great art.
From its invention in the 19th Century photography has been used to reflect on every aspect of life and society. Across a series of five monthly talks leading academics, curators and photo historians will explore the many fascinating aspects of Irish photographic history. Concentrating on key themes, the speakers will trace how photography developed both creatively and technically. They will survey significant contributions to the canon of photography by Irish photographers across the 19th and early 20th Centuries.
The series will examine how photography has shaped Irish identity at home and abroad, along with the pivotal role it has played in commemorating our past and defining how we see ourselves, reflecting the changing nature of Irishness. Delivered in an informative, engaging way, no prior knowledge is required to enjoy these wide-ranging talks, which offer an overview of how photography has come to occupy the place that it does in our lives and the diverse paths that Irish photographers have taken in creating their work.
