In Conversation: Robert Ellis and Åsa Johannesson

Join artist Robert Ellis in conversation with artist, writer and researcher Åsa Johannesson, exploring the ideas at the heart of The Forbidden Sun – queerness, landscape, memory, and the ways identity can be shaped by what remains unspoken.

Johannesson’s practice spans photography, installation and writing, with a particular focus on queerness, representation and material knowledge production. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Queer Britain, Centrum för fotografi and Landskrona Foto, and her book Queer Methodology for Photography was published by Routledge in 2024.

The conversation takes place alongside Ellis’s exhibition The Forbidden Sun, a major new body of work developed through Photo Museum Ireland’s Artist Development Residency, with support from an Arts Council Project Award.
