The Artistic Leadership Circle (ALC) presents an evening of performance excerpts from the team responsible for the creative design of the inaugural PhysFest 2024: Akil Apollo Davis, Bill Bowers, Lou Sydel, Margarita Blush, Ran Xia, and Selma Trevino.

This dynamic collage features a kaleidoscope of diverse forms, aesthetics, themes, and approaches that will captivate your senses. So join us in this jubilant celebration of unwavering passion and dedication to the festival, to the exhilarating world of physical theatre, and to the vibrant community that fuels our artistic fire.

In Akil Apollo Davis’ Mask & Power of Transformation the audience will meet the Brahe-Davis Method of Mask - a powerful tool of transformation taught by only 3 humans in the world. Akil will alchemize movement, freestyle poetry, transformation, mask to take you on an illuminating journey into your own power and potential to transform!

Bill Bowers’ Portal of Memories is a work-in-development excerpt from Bill’s newest show, Bivouac. The work delves into memory: the memories we choose to hold onto, and those that hold on to us.

Lou Sydel’s On the Other Hand explores connections between gender and gesture. Ranging from whimsical to vulnerable, this solo dance-theater piece is about trans futurity and the limits of language.

Margarita Blush will present an excerpt from Uninvisible*, a show created in collaboration with Ian Farley. Uninvisible mixes comedy, theatre clown, shadow imagery, and tragedy to explore themes of self-discovery and lost or erased history.

Ran Xia will take you on a visual odyssey through her use of physical theatre techniques in her directorial works with a video featuring excerpts from her productions including Prometheus Bound and Orlando.

Selma Trevino’s Lavadeira Interlude is a dance theatre performance piece which presents a twist to the reality of Brazilians Washerwomen.
