8-Week Self-Defence & Exercise Programme for Older Adults (Staying Safe and Active – Ballymahon) - In partnership with Longford Community Safety Partnership, An Garda Síochána, Fire Service and more (Granard Library HQ)
Overview:
This 8-week programme (Every Wednesday at 10:30am) that empowers many adults and older adults through a mix of gentle physical activity, basic self-defence techniques, and community safety education. Designed to improve confidence, mobility, and personal safety, it also connects participants with vital local services and resources.
Programme Features:
- Pole Walking Exercise at 10:30am
- Weekly 60-minute sessions combining exercises with simple self-defence skills at 11:00am
- Inclusive and adaptable for all fitness levels and mobility needs
- Guest presentations at 11:45am from:
- An Garda Síochána on crime prevention, fraud awareness, and personal safety
- The Fire Service on fire safety in the home and emergency preparedness
- Safe, welcoming space to ask questions and build skills
- Emphasis on empowerment, awareness, and practical action
