Trans Solidarity | Difference Embraced
A weekend of stories, music, critical reflection, and community conversation in Boulder, CO
Allie n Steve Mullen a chicago-based film composer, singer-songwriter, storyteller, and trans elder invites us into their story of identity, becoming, and integration.
Thursday, October 22, 6:30 - 8pm (Off Broadway Art Gallery @ Pine Street Church)
“Hyphenated Life” Live Podcast Recording - It’s All About the “n”
The “n” in Allie n Steve's name highlights all the spaces “in-between” where we are now and where we have been, and the ongoing work of “becoming” in a trans body. Hyphenated Life is a podcast that explores topics at the intersection of spirituality and culture through the perspectives of faith, art, music, theology, politics, and adventurous conversation where listeners find connections with the "secular" and "sacred." So naturally Allie n Steve and Hyphenated Life are getting together for said adventurous conversation.
The evening will begin with a different kind of happy hour; catered hor d'oeuvres, a diverse beverage bar, and a chance to commune with your neighbors in the Art Gallery of Pine Street Church. The "Happy Hour" will be followed by a live recording of a "Hyphenated Life" podcast interview with "Dear Steve... It's Allie" creator, Allie n Steve Mullen.
100% of ticket sales will be donated to co-sponsor, Rocky Mountain Equality (RMEQ), who work collaboratively to create connection and provide advocacy, education, research, cultural events, and responsive programs and services that ensure LGBTQ+ people, families, and communities thrive.
Saturday, October 24, 6:30 - 8:30pm (Canyon Theater Boulder Public Library)
Dear Steve… it’s Allie | A Love Song to Small Town America from a Cosmopolitan Snowflake
Dear Steve... it’s Allie is a theatrical autobiography told with songs and stories and pictures, written and performed by Allie n Steve Mullen, a small-town Baptist boy who grew up to be a cosmopolitan lady. In a performance that is both traditional and high-tech, Allie plays the piano and mountain dulcimer, weaving in historic field recordings and electronic beats, as she sings, tells stories, and talks to her younger self — Steve — about the heartland boy and devoted father she watched from a distance, and the life she now lives as a trans composer and artist.
In lieu of ticket charges we ask that you consider, as you're able, making a donation to support Rocky Mountain Equality and their advocacy and services for LGBTQIA+ individuals experiencing housing instability.
Sunday, October 25, 10 - 11:30am (Pine Street Church)
