Pink Pistols Denver: Pistol 1 Class

Course Length: Approximately 4 Hours
Prerequisites: Eyes/Ear Protection (Rentals available). Please contact training@pinkpistolsdenver.org if you require a loaner. Suitable for new and novice shooters. Although a New Shooter Event is not a prerequisite, Pistol 1 is an excellent follow-up class for those who have attended a New Shooter Event. 

Pistol 1 is an introductory handgun course designed to provide students with a safe, structured foundation in defensive pistol handling and marksmanship. This course emphasizes firearm safety, proper gun handling, and the development of core shooting fundamentals necessary for responsible firearm ownership and continued skill development.

Classroom instruction covers basic pistol operation, an overview of handgun components, equipment selection considerations, holster options, and the identification and management of common firearm malfunctions such as misfires, hangfires, and squib loads.

Practical range instruction focuses on the essential elements of accurate shooting, including grip, stance, sight picture, trigger control, follow-through, and ready positions.

Live-fire training emphasizes accuracy and consistency at close distances, with the goal of developing reliable shot placement and achieving effective shot groupings at five yards. Additional range exercises may include reload drills, recoil management, multiple-shot strings, and introductory defensive shooting drills.

By the conclusion of this course, students will be able to: 

• Safely handle, load, unload, and fire a semiautomatic pistol.
• Apply the universal firearms safety rules at all times.
• Demonstrate proper shooting fundamentals and ready positions.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to common firearm malfunctions.
• Perform basic reload procedures.
• Practice firearms proficiency with dry-fire effectively on their own time.
• Have a basic training drill set to practice during solo range sessions.
