"This Must Be The Place: How Music Can Make Your City Better"
With Shain Shapiro
Summary
There is much discussion about the role that music plays in how we think about and experience cities and places. From The Beatles and Liverpool to 'Madchester' to pilgrimages to Graceland or Mississippi Blues, or the draw of Ibiza, it is undeniable that the sound of music shapes our thoughts about a place, whether we want to visit or avoid it.
But amid all this, little is considered about what happens behind the scenes in our cities and the role and impact of music on the hidden decisions that shape the quality and vibrancy of the places we live. What businesses can open where? How are flats designed and approved? What investments are made where, and how, across hospitality, entertainment, and even transport? What, and often, who do we prioritize as residents?
Music is not just a way to see cities. It is a way to plan, measure, and reimagine cities, and Shain Shapiro, author of This Must Be The Place: How Music Can Make Your City Better, will show you how this happens.
