"The Self Improvement Lie"
With Anna Bocca

Summary
Have you ever tried to become the "best version of yourself?" In this talk, we are going to dive into society's obsession with self-improvement and how it is the psychological byproduct of a financial system designed to concentrate wealth at the top. By connecting the dots between a financialised economy, macro-economic policy, and the philosophy of the "Achievement Society," we will see how the myth of "meritocracy" hides the reality of a growing wealth gap. We will explore the hidden psychology of internalised pressure, where we have been conditioned to monitor and exploit our own productivity. And we will discuss how our only way to rebel against this world is to stop treating our lives like projects to be managed and start reclaiming our right to simply be human.

Bio
Anna Bocca is a London-based YouTuber who explores the intersection of finance, economics, and the psychological toll of our modern world. After finishing a degree in Psychology, she spent several years in corporate finance. This was long enough to realise that our financial system has morphed into a monster prioritising abstract "growth" over human well-being, corporate-lingo is just a fancy way to avoid saying anything real, and that life is too short to spend it glued to a spreadsheet making a few people at the top even wealthier. Now, she uses her channel to explain our complex economic system, helping others understand how our current economy isn't just funneling wealth to the Bezoses of the world, but is actively hollowing out the human soul.
