"Wonders Of The Thames Estuary"
With Adam Taylor
Summary
From the Queen Elizabeth II bridge and far out to the towering Sea forts, we look at some of the known and lesser-known features of the tidal gateway to London.
This colourful presentation uses animation, video, sound, maps and photos to help you explore some of the unsung wonders of the Thames Estuary, revealing the complexity of the biggest container port on the Thames, the nostalgic magic of Southend Pier, the forgotten Thames Boom and the infamous shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery.
We also take a closer look at the amazing sea creatures which thrive just below the waves...
Bio
Growing up on the North Kent Coast, Adam developed a deep passion for the sea, spending much of his time on the water. He honed his sailing skills in the Thames Estuary and has since sailed around Tobago, circumnavigated Martinique, and participated in the Great River Race three times, helping to raise funds for Cancer Research.
Adam has presented to many clubs and organisations including Classic Boat Festival at St Kathrine Docks, Canterbury Christ Church Collage, Chatham Historic Dockyard, Royal Thames Yacht Club, Company of Watermen & Lightermen, Medway History Showcase, Richmond Yacht Club, Chiswick Pier Trust.
Adam also serves as a commentator aboard the PS Waverley, where he shares insights about the London and Medway Estuary locations. His curiosity about the region’s history led him to uncover and revive nearly forgotten local stories.
Adam divides his time between London and Kent with his partner, Anne, and frequently enjoys overseas canoeing adventures, history and meeting people.
