"How do we build a space telescope to explore the Universe?"
With Dr. Darshan Kakkad
Summary
Astronomers have built some of the world's largest telescopes on remote mountaintops and have even launched many of them into space. In the last 50 years alone, more than 100 space telescopes have been sent into the Earth’s orbit and beyond.
Why do we need so many telescopes? What makes space telescopes among the most ambitious and technologically demanding scientific missions ever undertaken? What new observatories are being built today, and what will they discover over the next 50 years? And what role is the UK playing in these groundbreaking missions?
Join me for this Pints of Knowledge session as we explore how space telescopes are designed and built, the engineering challenges behind them, and the exciting future of astronomical discovery.

Dr. Kakkad is a senior lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire researching in the field of supermassive black holes in the Universe.
