"A Georgian Guide to Getting Laid: Sex, Scandal and Harris’s List" with Sofia Gallucci
Summary:
In 1757, a struggling Irish poet, a Covent Garden pimp and one of London’s most celebrated courtesans came together to create London’s newest little black book: Harris’s List of Covent Garden Ladies.
Published annually for nearly four decades, the List catalogued the names, addresses, appearances and ‘specialities’ of women working in London’s sex trade, becoming one of the most notorious bestsellers of the 18th century.
Yet beyond its outrageous and often hilarious entries lies a glimpse into the lives of the people who made, sold and appeared in its pages. List in hand, Sofia Gallucci takes us through the streets of Georgian London - from brothels and taverns to theatres and courtrooms - uncovering a world shaped by sex and money, ambition and desire, exploitation and survival. At its heart, the women whose private lives became public entertainment.

What happens at Pints of Knowledge?
At each Pints of Knowledge event, you’ll hear engaging talks (approx. 40 minutes) from expert speakers on fascinating topics — followed by an audience Q&A (approx. 20 minutes). What if I don't drink alcohol?
No problem at all! Pints of Knowledge is all about the ideas and the community, not the drinks. You’re welcome to enjoy a soft drink, coffee, or whatever you prefer. The focus is on creating a relaxed, social atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable.
