''Bristol: Suffragette City'' with Jane Duffus
Summary
Bristol has always been a city of activism and, outside of London, we saw the highest amount of suffrage activity anywhere in the UK. From the UK’s youngest ever imprisoned militant to the whip-wielding protestor who attacked Winston Churchill, Bristol claims some of the most imaginative and exciting suffrage campaigners ever. This talk will bring to life some of the most inspiring – but shockingly forgotten – of these stories… most of whom you will have never heard about before, including the suffragette sisters who had a resident Swami for 30 years. What a bunch of cracking women!
Bio
Jane Duffus qualified as a journalist in 2001 and has worked for countless best-selling national magazines. She set up the award-winning What The Frock! Comedy project in 2012 to challenge an industry that knowingly overlooks female talent. Jane has also written nine social history books, including five in ‘The Women Who…’ series. The Bristol Post has called her one of the 20 most rebellious women in Bristol.
