Some see the Union of 1707 as the end of Scottish history. Others see it as a new beginning. This talk will investigate the way that the Union has worked over the period since 1707. At one level the Union is a stable entity, it has survived; unionism has triumphed. Perhaps this survival is due to its mutability and flexibility. The talk will look at the history of the Union in different periods since 1707 and compare it to other unions in modern history in Europe and beyond. Professor Cameron has a poor record in prediction, but he might be tempted into some speculations about the future.

Bio:

Ewen A. Cameron is the Sir William Fraser Professor of Scottish History at the University of Edinburgh. He is author of many works about modern Scottish History: particularly, Impaled Upon a Thistle, Scotland since 1880.

No problem at all! Pints of Knowledge is all about the ideas and the community, not the drinks. You’re welcome to enjoy a soft drink, coffee, or whatever you prefer. The focus is on creating a relaxed, social atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable

Can I attend without a ticket?

Tickets must be purchased online prior to the event. With our limited capacity at each venue we can't let people in without a ticket.

Is there food available?

Yes, there is always the option to purchase food at our events.

Can I get my ticket refunded?

We issue full ticket refunds if you have requested 7 days before the event. Any requests after will be at the discretion of the event organiser.

Is the event dog friendly?
