"People Make Glasgow... Astonishing"
with David Campbell (@astonishingglasgow)
Summary
Glasgow is, let's face it, the centre of the entire universe.
The modern world would look very different without the contributions to science, medicine, and social welfare that came from our dear green place. Over the last five years David has been documenting the stories of Glaswegians and their extraordinary influence on the world through his YouTube channel, Astonishing Glasgow — and at this first Pints of Knowledge event at Drygate Brewery, he'll be sharing some of those stories.
These are the past residents of Glasgow who deserve to be remembered. David's aim is to remind you that if you look beyond the moans and groans that fill social media, you'll find a city that should make you genuinely, rightfully proud. Some of these stories you may not know. Some of these people you may never have heard of. And he promises there will be a few deviations from the script that will take us all by surprise.
Come along, and let David introduce you to the people of the past who prove — people make Glasgow.
Bio
David Campbell has accidentally become a historian and storyteller.
Born at the Rottenrow Maternity Hospital in Glasgow — so many years ago he's stopped counting — David has made his life in the city and still lives in Cathcart on the Southside, where he's been collecting its stories for as long as he can remember.
During lockdown he found a way to share those stories through YouTube, and astonishingly, it led to a complete change of career. He now leads Glasgow walking tours and spends his days doing what he loves most — sharing the wonderful, surprising history of this city. David has amassed 40,000 subscribers on YouTube.
