"How a city got high on music: the pop culture roots of Manchesterism." with Andy Spinoza

Summary

Manchesterism is the word of the year so far, as the city’s mayor-turned UK prime minister declares he will run the nation jointly from here and London. The world has woken up to Manchester, but how did it go from the dying, dirty old town to the skyscraper city of today? Journalist and author Andy Spinoza lived the Manchester re-invention and rewinds the roots of this remarkable story of how a city got high on pop culture and public spectacle.

Bio

Andy Spinoza founded City Life magazine in 1983 and reported on the Madchester music scene for the music press and the Manchester Evening News, where he was Diary Editor for ten years. He then spent 25 years in PR promoting the city with its businesses, leaders and celebrities. In 2023 he published Manchester Unspun, an acclaimed account of how a city got high on music, culture and spectacle.
