''Radical Manchester: How One City Changed the World'' with Michael de Botte

Summary

Manchester has always been more than a city of factories and cotton. It has been a place where radical ideas took root, challenged the establishment and travelled far beyond the city. From the Industrial Revolution and the world’s first inter-city passenger railway, to Peterloo, Chartism, women’s suffrage, socialism, the fight for workers’ rights and musical revolution, Manchester has repeatedly found itself at the centre of change.

But how did a city that once had just 500 people living in its centre in the 1980s become the vibrant city we know today? This talk explores the people, places and events that gave Manchester its radical reputation - and its enduring influence on the modern world.
