MUSIKELI

A men's ensemble from Samegrelo region in the west of Georgia, led by Dimitri Kakulia. 

Based at Senaki Municiplity Student, Youth and Culture Centre, Musikeli are highly experienced at leading workshops with singers of all ages and abilities. The ensemble teach and perform a wide repertoire, ranging from sacred chants to work songs, modern 'city' songs, and comic folk songs, but all with a particular emphasis on western Georgian styles.

Recently returned from touring Lithuania, this will be Musikeli's first visit to the UK.

WORKSHOP 7–9pm
The workshop is open to all, and there is no need to read music, know the language, or have previous experience. Songs will be taught by ear. So if you are unfamiliar with this tradition, you are guaranteed a warm welcome and an enjoyable introduction to this beautiful music.

Concert
In the afternoon of 23 May, Musikeli will also hold a concert from 12.45-2pm at Rose Hill Tavern, Brighton. Further information and tickets here.

TS'UTISOPELI WEEKEND 19–21 May
This workshop and concert is part of a UK wide tour by Musikeli and a women's ensemble, Ialoni. The centrepiece of the tour will be a weekend residential event with both choirs, with further workshops, concert, and a supra, or Georgian feast, at which singers from across the UK will gather to share and sing together the songs that we've learned during the tour.
