In-person, Caterham, Surrey - One day of learning

Who’s it for?
Anyone and everyone! Whether you're feeling clueless or totally fired up, this course is for you. Climate talk can be overwhelming (and a bit depressing), but Carbon Literacy brings clarity, calm, and a good dose of hope. You’ll learn, share, and leave feeling confident and ready to make a difference.

People join to:

  • Get their head around the science and explain it to others 🥼
  • Work out their own carbon footprint and how to shrink it 👣
  • Feel less anxious and more empowered 💪
  • Chat climate in their communities without awkward silences 😃
  • Step up as climate leaders in their workplace or beyond 💥
  • Because it's cool 😎

So… what is Carbon Literacy?
It’s a day of learning that gives you the know-how and motivation to cut carbon - personally, locally, and globally. Officially recognised by the UN, it’s one of a kind!

What to Expect
This isn’t about guilt-tripping or going full eco-warrior. You won’t be told to live off chia seeds or knit your own socks from homegrown bamboo. It’s about real conversations, inclusive ideas, and small steps that lead to big change.

You’ll Learn:

  • How the carbon cycle works (without needing a science degree)
  • How to measure your footprint with easy tools
  • What’s happening locally and globally
  • How to build an action plan that suits you
  • How to talk climate without losing friends or hope
  • How to act and inspire others along the way
  • How to be Climate Cool!

Finish the course, submitting your individual and group pledges, and be certified Carbon Literate.

The carbon Literacy Project recognised by the UN and awarded a Tap 100 (Transformative Action Program). This is an accredited course and  recognised qualification.

About Me
A few years ago, after hearing more and more about climate change, I figured it was time to start “doing my bit.”

There was advice everywhere—stop flying, go vegan, walk more, switch off lights, get solar panels... the list felt endless. But I kept wondering: Does any of this actually make a difference? If I skip a flight, does it really matter? What’s the actual impact of turning down the thermostat?

So, I started small - ditched meat (easy enough for me), adjusted the heating, checked where my food came from. But instead of feeling proud or hopeful, I often felt confused, anxious, and guilty. I realised I didn’t need more opinions - I needed some solid, clear guidance.

That’s when I found the Carbon Literacy Project. In just one day, it gave me exactly what I was looking for: clear science, practical tools to measure my footprint, and a way to take meaningful action without the overwhelm. I became Certified Carbon Literate and, inspired, wanted to help others feel the same sense of clarity and confidence.

So, I created my own course, designed for real people, in real communities, who want to make a difference, without getting lost in the noise.

And here we are!

In 2024, my Carbon Literacy course for Individuals was  accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project:

Lucas Nabarro, Criteria Checking Officer, Carbon Literacy Project

" The content provided for this course is very impressive. A combination of great detail and good breadth makes it one of the best ones I have reviewed."

Here's what some of my participants had to say:

Niamh Kendall, Student, International Disaster Management, Manchester University
November 2024
"Gill was an excellent trainer, presenting was very clear and informative and I leant a lot about what I can of individually and in my community. It also was a great opportunity to meet like minded people for around the world and I feel very inspired!"

May Lau, Retired Pharmacist and founder of Recycle Kenilworth - November 2024                                                                                                                                      "The Carbon Literacy Certification Course delivered by Planet Fox was EMPOWERING. It gave me the confidence to make changes that suits my lifestyle. The information given was easy to understand and the course gave me the CONFIDENCE to help others who are interested to make the positive changes towards living a zero carbon life."

Tsengunn - Co-Founder, Public Lab Mongolia' - November 2024                                                                                                                                                                           "I am grateful to have completed the Carbon Literacy Training along with my colleagues at Public Lab Mongolia thanks to generous support from the Planet Fox and Carbon Literacy Project team and have joined the Carbon Literacy Action Day 2024 from Mongolia. With the knowledge and skills gained from the training, I aspire to contribute to effective climate action in Mongolia by making climate-conscious decisions in my personal and professional life and developing carbon literacy training in the Mongolian context to help educate the wider public and stakeholders about climate crisis and practical, creative solutions to counter it."

Sam Drury-Shore - Sustainable Devizes - Sept 2025                                                                                                                                                                                                "I highly recommend Gill's Carbon Literacy course. Even if, like me, you’d already consider yourself a climate person, there’s loads of useful content, fresh perspectives, and a wonderfully supportive and collaborative environment to explore these in".

Frances McHardy - Abba Voyage - April 2026
"I think this course is a great tool for anyone looking to understand our impact on the environment and the urgent steps we as a society need to take. Everyone should take a carbon literacy course"

Samantha Dickson - BA Biological Sciences - May 2026
"Gill from Planet Fox was an excellent presenter with patience and kindness. The course was timely and well balanced with short quiz type activities for consolidating knowledge. An enjoyable course. Thank you".

You are not powerless! Just completing this small course is a GIGANTIC step in the right direction. Together, all our small changes can make a HUGE difference.
