Planet Wimborne Green Festival 2026 - Rivers for Wimborne

Dorset Catchment Partnerships

Hear from Zoë Randle, Dorset Catchment Partnership Coordinator, about the inspiring work taking place across Dorset to protect and improve our rivers. Dorset Catchment Partnerships (https://www.dorsetcatchments.co.uk/) brings together organisations, farmers, land managers, communities and businesses with a shared vision for healthier, more resilient waterways. Through collaboration and partnership working, DCP supports a wide range of initiatives, from improving water quality and restoring rivers to delivering natural flood management, enhancing habitats and promoting sustainable land management. Citizen science is also at the heart of this work, empowering local people to connect with their waterways, contribute valuable environmental data and play an active role in shaping the future of Dorset's river catchments.

Stour Valley Park Project

Hear from Bex Johnson-Smith, Heathland Mitigation Project Manager at BCP Council, about the Stour Valley Park project (https://www.stourvalley.uk/).  The Stour Valley Park project remains a priority for both BCP Council and Dorset Council and there is work taking place to push this forward. There has been a re-grouping to take stock of where we are and where we need to get to in order to start making real progress on the strategy (https://www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/about-the-council/strategies-plans-and-policies/stour-valley-park-strategy).

Work is being done to create a delivery plan, which includes phasing the Stour Valley, prioritising different projects and assessing timelines/resource. We are going to be updating the mapping that was done and potentially re-jigging the website slightly to make it easier to understand how this project is being managed/delivered. So much work has already been done through the valley, but it hasn’t been joined up or branded to be included as part of the strategy. We want to change this – but given the scale, we may choose one area to start with and roll it out on a wider scale once we know it has worked.

Travel arrangements

The event is being held at St Johns Church, Wimborne.  Please consider travelling to the event by walking, wheeling or by bus (Morebus 13 & 13a buses will drop you off within 50 metres of the church and the 6 & 4 at the Quarterjack Surgery roundabout about 5 minutes away.  The 3 bus will drop you off in the Town centre and it is about 10 minutes to the Church). If you do drive, please consider car sharing.

The Church is accessible.  There are toilets and accessible toilets available.
