Planet Wimborne Green Festival 2026 - The Wellbeing Connection

Drawing on doctoral research and work with local authorities, the NHS and community organisations, speaker Rosie Equi will explore the benefits of social prescribing (defined by NHS England as an approach that connects people to activities, groups, and services in their community to meet the practical, social and emotional needs that affect their health and wellbeing (https://www.england.nhs.uk/personalisedcare/social-prescribing/)), and how community connections, volunteering, nature and local activities support health & wellbeing.

Rosie's talk should last about an hour including a Q&A and is on the evening of Thursday 15th October at Wimborne Community Centre (accessed from King Street car park).  Doors will open at 7.15pm for refreshments prior to a 7.30pm start.

About Rosie Equi

Throughout my doctoral research at Bournemouth University, I am exploring how ‘social prescribing’ influences older adults’ experiences of ageing well. This has involved spending time with older adults to examine how community connections, volunteering, nature and local activities can support health and wellbeing. Alongside my PhD, I work with local authorities, the NHS and community organisations to help translate research into practice and improve health and care services. I am passionate about making research accessible and using evidence to build healthier, more connected communities.

This short poem I relate to with walking my dog (or rather, her walking me!). Since bringing her home last year, I have found the daily morning and evening walks really help me to connect with nature, and a great way to start and unwind from my day.
