Autumn Foraging - Craignish Peninsula, Argyll
Autumn Foraging - Craignish Peninsula, Argyll
Need help?
A deep dive into autumn’s riches. This walk offers space to explore three rich and varied habitats - woodland, meadow and hedgerow - as we seek out the nuts, berries, roots, barks and fungi that fill our baskets at this time of year.
This autumn foraging course is an invitation to learn about the edible and medicinal autumn plants found on the Craignish Peninsula. Autumn is a special time for foraging and this walk will give us time to celebrate the best of this season.
The course consists of a 2.5 hour foraging walk, in which you will learn lifelong identification techniques, inspiring recipe ideas, and a wealth of ethnobotanical tales.
During the walk we will move through a variety of habitats – woodland, meadow, hedgerow and garden - taking time to connect with each surrounding environment, noticing their changing flora and subtle variations in character.
We will finish up with a light foraged meal and specially prepared seasonal tea, with time to revise the plants learnt and how best to store them for winter use.
All participants will also receive a personalised PDF containing information about all the plants met.
We hope you will gain:
- Confidence in identifying over 15 wild plants and mushrooms, as well as any poisonous ones encountered
- Knowledge of some of Argyll's woodland and the medicine and uses of its native trees
- Methods of preparation to make wild food and herbal remedies at home
- A sense of confidence in your own foraging practice
- Understanding of the seasonal rhythm needed when gathering wild food in the northern hemsiphere
