Description
entre chien et loup is a new solo performance by dance artist, James Gnam
entre chien et loup [literally, between dog and wolf] is an old French expression commonly used to describe a time of day when the light is so dim, you can't distinguish a dog from a wolf.
Twilight, dawn, dusk. The gloaming.
In that time between the dog and the wolf, we might feel deceived by our eyes, caught somewhere between comfort and fear, witness to human nature turning wild and uneasiness replacing certainty.
James embodies multiple layers of this expression to expose his process of making a solo during a pandemic. The work unfolds through cosplay and child-like inquisitiveness, reaching into the thresholds of the familiar and unfamiliar, of the real and the unreal.
Broadcasting live from Left of Main, entre chien et loup uses live camera feeds and counterpointed physical states, highlighted by James Proudfoot’s responsive lighting design, Loscil's electronic sounds and Eric Chad's generative projections, to obscure and reveal the domesticated beast within the feral animal.
Running time: approximately 45 minutes, no intermission. “Doors” open 15 minutes before. There will be a pre-show video that will allow you time to test your streaming set up.
