Interested in rigging for film and TV? Want to expand your mental portfolio of equipment knowledge? Looking to learn safety techniques to improve your confidence while out climbing? Come on down to Plas y Brenin, where we can teach you the ropes!
All three ticket types include dinner on Friday; breakfast, lunch, tea+cake, and dinner on Saturday; and breakfast, lunch, and tea+cake on Sunday. Our residential tickets also include a two night stay in a beautiful twin or single en-suite room. Whether you're staying onsite or going home at the end of the day, your ticket grants you access to the talks on both evenings.
After you have chosen your ticket type, please select four workshops to fill your weekend with a variety of activities. The prices of the workshops differ, based on the cost of running each one. Workshops
Self-lining workshops
A chance to look at all the current devices, Rigs, Sparks, Clutch and others that are in use. Looking at back ups and good working practise. The use in ascent and descent and looking at twin line use if you’re using them in a more industrial setting. A very practical workshop.

Bolting Workshop
A practical session, looking at placing expansion bolts and Resin anchors. A guide to good practise, in Drilling and placing Bolts and load testing some of these anchors. Also, a discussion about the BMC bolt fund and how to support it

Gear Testing
Dmm will bring in their portable testing machine and load test and destroy everyday climbing gear. A chance to bring some old or damaged gear for testing to see the results

Belay Workshop
A chance to play with all the current belay devices around. Also, a workshop run by Petzl introducing the new neox belay device that has come on the market.

Tyrolean Workshop
A look at Tyrolean’s and how we build, manage and use them in different contexts. How we tension ropes, what devices we use and potential loads and forces that can occur

Performance flying and tree use
Use of trees in rigging. How we make judgements on suitability and how we access trees from an arborist viewpoint and rigging them for performance activities

Outdoor Rigging
A look at ground anchors, stakes, Talons and other options. Set ups and forces involved. Use of Load cells to show forces and limitations. Knotcraft and improvised Rigging. Waldo Etherington of Remote ropes, will run this workshop looking at all the techniques he has used over his years rigging for film and TV in remote locations.

Light weight Rigging solutions
A look at powercord and other lightweight solutions being used by rescue teams in remote situations where weight is an issue

Problem solving for climbers using simple kit that they may carry. Logical steps to work out solutions to problems that may occur in climbing situations

Talks
Friday talk- Unusual Rigging
A look at how rigging and safety has changed over the last 40 years and a journey through arena, stunt and film rigging and the crossovers into the recreational climbing world.
Saturday talk- Rigging for Films
Waldo Etherington of Remote Ropes will talk about his rigging experiences running the company and the work he has done on many film productions for discovery Channel, National Geographic and the BBC.
