‘We might have danced’ is a story about whether love is ever powerful enough to make people stay when they want to leave.

Leah has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. She spends her days in Ipswich barely leaving the house, and hanging out with her mum, Ruth.

Ruth is determined to keep her daughter close and safe, sometimes to the point of suffocation.

But when Leah meets Ollie, a doctor at the local hospital, they fall in love. And Leah’s growing autonomy forces Ruth to confront her own fears.

The play explores questions about suffering, autonomy and how to leave the ones we love.
