Don't be Funny: 4 Day Clowning Workshop with Josh Glanc

Spend four days immersed in the world of clowning and theatre red-nose clown.

Clown teaches us how to be more open and comfortable on stage. It helps us learn how to be present with an audience, to take pleasure in being there, and pleasure in being seen. It teaches us to be more mischievous, to play and have fun on stage. These are fundamentals of performing.

Clown is a brilliant way to dive head-first into these crucial concepts of being on stage. You don't need to be funny, just be with us, share your pleasure (and your flops) and have fun.

Through playful exercises, games, and improvisation, you'll be encouraged to take risks, be impulsive, and find the freedom to be stupid, silly, and free. These are skills that extend far beyond clown into any kind of performance.

What is explored across the four days will feed directly into your live performance work and devising processes. Strong clowning and physical comedy skills sharpen everything: farce, stand-up, circus, cabaret, scripted plays, devised work, even dramatic text.

Who it's for: Performers with some stage experience. Improvisers, stand-ups, actors, or anyone who's spent time on stage and wants to experience clowning and feel more comfortable, relaxed, and alive on stage.

About Josh

Josh Glanc is a multi-award-winning clown and performer, nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. He trained in Jacques Lecoq technique at École Philippe Gaulier, the John Bolton Theatre School, and with Giovanni Fusetti and Spymonkey. He has also trained with Norman Taylor in movement. He teaches the Autumn 10-week Soho Theatre Labs Plus course with a focus on performing, and he regularly teaches clown and performing workshops.
