Getting into (ETHICAL) K.NK!
Thu 29 Aug 2024 6:30 PM - Tue 10 Sep 2024 9:00 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
Are you curious about k.nk? Maybe you've seen or heard about some things that pique your interest but don't know where to get started. Perhaps it all just feels a little bit too intimidating. This course from Pleasure Rebels has been designed with you in mind!
I believe that k.nk has so much to offer us - as a way to get to know ourselves better, develop new (hugely transferable) skills, connect with people, and PLAY - and yet, I think the very nature of it can make it all seem a bit daunting. It can be a BIG leap to go from reading about something online to rocking up at a dungeon or k.nk party.
As a full-time k.nk and s-x educator, I have worked with hundreds of people as they embark on their journey into k.nk, through one-to-one sessions as well as my courses and workshops. I have also been exploring k.nk in my personal life for the last 20+ years, with some good, bad, and downright ugly experiences along the way!
This course brings together some of the most critical pieces of information and tools that I would pass on to someone looking to dip a toe into this world (and wish I could go back and share with my younger self!).
** This foundational course is also the starting point for POWER & PRESENCE, a deeper-dive programme into Ethical Dominance. It can be taken as a standalone course, or in combination with other modules, and may be a requirement for attending some future Pleasure Rebels play events **
COURSE OVERVIEW
This is an online course taking place via Zoom over four 2.5 hour sessions.
This course aims to provide an introduction to Ethical K.nk for those who are new to kink in general, or those who may have some experience but who wish to learn how to engage in k.nk responsibly. The focus is on soft skills rather than technical skills.
Some of the topics covered include:
What is k.nk (and what can it be)?
How can k.nk be good for me?!
How do we make k.nk ethical?
Consent, negotiation, and communication as fundamental skills
An introduction to playing with power
Aftercare - what and why?
Where to go from here and what to look out for
There will be some OPTIONAL homework between classes for those of you who wish to dive deeper into the practices and reflective work.
THE SCHEDULE
Our online classes will take place 6.30 - 9 pm (UK time) on the following dates:
Thursday 29th August
Thursday 5th September
Monday 9th September
Tuesday 10th September
We will meet via Zoom. The link to join and other details will be sent out to course participants in a welcome email before the first session. Sessions will be recorded and made available to view for 2 weeks after the class date, should you have to miss any of the live classes.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
You will need a device with a reliable internet connection and some way to take notes. I would also recommend having a camera so that we can see each other, although it is not essential for you to be on screen.
There will be some interactive elements so I recommend having a private space in which you can join the classes so that you can speak freely and protect the privacy of other participants who may wish to share in the group.
Please also come with a learner’s mind! This is a queer-led event that welcomes respectful humans of all genders, sexualities, and relationship orientations. You might hear a range of experiences in the group that differ from your own, and I encourage us all to meet these with openness and curiosity.
You don’t need any k.nky attire, toys, or accessories to participate in this course.
OPTIONAL IN-PERSON GATHERING
In this edition of the course, there will be optional in-person gathering to attend on Sunday 29th September.
This day will offer extra opportunities to practice, to connect with your peers, and to play.
The in-person gatherings will all take place in Salford, Greater Manchester.
The extra fee for this day is £60. If you'd like to attend, be sure to select the right option at checkout.
WHAT PAST PARTICIPANTS HAVE SAID ABOUT THIS COURSE:
“A comprehensive, un-rushed, and thorough introduction to ethical kink. It was really enjoyable and I feel more confident and informed about having conversations and perhaps engaging in play which will meet my needs for connection, self-expression, self-exploration and pleasure. The course was warm and welcoming and felt extremely comfortable and inclusive. I would recommend it to beginners and those who are more experienced too. Thank you!”
"The course was a great introduction to the key concepts and terminology related to kink activities. The course also provides a lot of insight into how to be involved in kink scenes in a way that respects the wants and needs of all parties involved."
“Lex's Ethical Kink course gives a solid grounding in consent, power dynamics and personal choice - and is also great fun. It's an invitation to transform your life, and a great low-pressure starting point for the curious.”
"An excellent introduction to kink from a very experienced practitioner, who has thought very clearly and deeply about what kink is, how to make it safe and keep it safe, and how to begin the process of finding and making it fun."
“I can’t recommend this course enough. Everyone should be learning how to negotiate relationships, aftercare, consent, boundaries for all aspects of life let alone the joy of creating kinky play space ethically!”
THE COST
The cost for the course is £150, or £210 including the in-person gathering.
This can be paid in full upfront or via a payment plan over up to 3 months (July, August, and September)
** If you are keen to join but feel that the price is the only limiting factor to attending, please get in touch and I will see what we can do to make this more accessible! **
I am setting a minimum number of five people to ‘activate’ the course. If we don't reach this number, I will let you know and refund your fee 1 week before the start date.
