Intro to Shibari ONLINE with Christian Red and Faerie Willow

Are you interested in learning more about Shibari, the Japanese art of rope bondage? Perhaps you've come across this in photos, videos, or live performances, and you're keen to give it a go. Or maybe you're looking for a new hobby that has some interesting practical applications... 

Well, now there's a way to do this from the comfort of your own home with a fully online edition of The Kinky Classroom's Intro to Shibari workshop, now delivered across 4 weekly online sessions. 

What to expect:

Live, online classes each week covering fundamental rope skills, including basic safety/risk reduction, negotiation, and how to tie with connection. Each class will include discussion and theory, demonstrations and walk-throughs, time to practice, and the opportunity to have your questions answered. 

This course is designed for beginners and people relatively new to rope. You're equally welcome if you've never explored rope bondage before, OR if you've dabbled a bit and want to bring together what you've been learning in a more structured way.

You don't need a partner to attend. All of the ties can be practiced through self-tying. 

All live classes will be hosted on Zoom and will also be recorded, allowing you to watch them back if you can't attend live or wish to revisit the content. Recordings will remain available for a period of 3 months from the date of recording. Ticketholders will also have access to a private Discord server, where you'll find links to live classes and recordings, weekly optional skill-building tests, and a digital quick reference guide that breaks down the rope skills covered during the classes, as well as opportunities to chat with other course participants (if you like!) and share photos of your practice ties for feedback. Ticketholders will receive the invitation link to Discord in their confirmation email.

You are not required to have your camera on during the class, but we encourage you to do so if you would like to receive feedback on your ties and, well, it's just kinda nice to see some of your faces too! 

We welcome adults of all genders, sexualities, and relationship orientations.

The schedule:

Week 1 (Tuesday 27th January): What the hell is a knot? The single column tie and basic rope safety

Week 2 (Tuesday 3rd February): Frictions and basic negotiation when tying someone else 

Week 3 (Tuesday 10th February): Double column ties and how to avoid common shoulder injuries 

Week 4 (Tuesday 17th February): Freestyle tying and how to tie with connection

Each class will run from 7 - 8.30 pm (UK time). 

What to wear and bring:

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. If you plan to have your camera on, please wear underwear at least. 

You will need at least two lengths of 7.5 metre rope (between 4-6 mm thickness). If you don't already have some, we have added the option to pre-order some from us, which will be posted out to you. Please note we can currently only take rope orders from the UK.

About your hosts:

This course will be led by Christian Red and Faerie Willow on behalf of The Kinky Classroom and Pleasure Rebels. 

Christian is a rope/takedown teacher based in Nottingham who has been teaching since 2012. His focus as an educator is giving people tools and ideas to express themselves by breaking complex topics into simple ideas. Christian Red's involvement in the kink community has lasted 20 years so far. In recent years, he has taught at Prague Shibari, Athens Rope, Anatomie Studios, Rope On!, Rope Office Hours, String Fling, UKREX, and Oxford Peer Rope. He's a regular guest teacher at The Kinky Classroom and has also appeared on The Kinky Coffee Break podcast. In 2025, Christian created the free rope safety digital publication Knot Without Risk. It has since been translated to 8 languages. Christian has also released over 100 rope video tutorials and has been a frequent contributor to the online platform Shibari Study.

Faerie Willow is a rope switch and model. She has been involved in kink for over a decade, incorporating rope as a side to other activities or as the main course. Willow is drawn to the aesthetic, functional, and emotional aspects that shibari brings to a scene.
