58th Scottish Ploughing Championships on 22nd & 23rd October 2022 at Stanstill Farm, Bower, Wick, Caithness, KW1 4TP

CHURCH SERVICE and BLESSING OF THE PLOUGH will be held in Watten Church, KW1 5YN on Friday 21st October 2022 at 7pm.
Five Nations Ploughing Challenge - Welcome Reception & Buffet on Friday 21st October at Stanstill, Bower, Wick, KW1 4TP at 4 pm - 5.30 pm. Tickets (£12 each) to be purchased in advance.
Dinner and Social Evening - Saturday 22nd October 2022 at the Northern Sands Hotel, Dunnet, KW14 8XD at 7.30 pm. Tickets (£30 each) to be purchased in advance.

SCHEDULE OF CLASSES (All ploughers must be members of the Scottish Ploughing Championships.)
SATURDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2022
CLASS 1 - General Purpose - Any make of Conventional Plough, 2 or more furrows. Hydraulic lift ploughs only. Minimum Depth 7" (17.8 cm) except at Openings and Finish. Skimmers must be used.
CLASS 2 - Classic Class - Any mounted plough, 2 or more furrows, in production before 31st December 1976. Plough bodies to be designed for plough at time of manufacture. NO HYDRAULIC ATTACHMENTS. Minimum Depth 7" (17.8 cm). Skimmers must be used. All models of tractor must have been produced without a "Q" cab (approximately 1976).
CLASS 3 - Reversible Ploughing - Butts - Any make of 2 or 3 furrow Reversible Plough, carrying no extraneous attachments and fitted with skimmers which must be used. Minimum Depth 7" (17.8 cm).
CLASS 3B - Non Hydraulic Classic Reversible Class - Any plough in production before 31st December 1976. Plough bodies to be designed for plough at time of manufacture. Minimum Depth 7" (17.8 cm). Skimmers must be used. Use of Hydraulic Top Link is NOT allowed. All models of tractor must have been produced without a "Q" cab (approximately 1976).
CLASS 4 - Reversible Ploughing - Any make of 3, 4 or 5 furrow Reversible Plough, carrying no extraneous attachments and fitted with skimmers which must be used. Minimum Depth 7" (17.8 cm).
CLASS 6 - Juniors Under 26 Years
Conventional or Reversible Ploughing, including Classic and Vintage, any make of plough, 2 or more furrows (maximum 5 furrows).
One assistant only allowed on both days. Assistant may only give verbal assistance, except with permission of Chief Inspector.
Ploughers will be judged as Conventional or Reversible with Special Awards judges deciding the overall Junior winner on second day.
CLASS 7 - Vintage Trailing
CLASS 8 - Vintage Mounted
Classes 7 and 8 - Any make of eligible plough, 2 or more furrows. TRACTORS AND PLOUGHS: ALL qualifying models, frames and bodies to have been in production before 31st December 1959. List of eligible tractors and ploughs for vintage classes on pages 19 & 20 of the Rule Book (available on the website at scotplough.co.uk). NO HYDRAULIC ATTACHMENTS. Minimum Depth 6 inches (15.2 cms). NO ASSISTANCE ALLOWED. Must provide an assistant to patrol headland.
CLASS 9 - Tractor High Cut Ploughing - Saturday and Sunday - Any make of plough. Extraneous attachments will be permitted. Minimum Depth 6" (15.2 cm). Plot must be completed by 3.30 p.m. One Assistant ONLY.
CLASS 10 - Horse Class - Broken Furrow - Minimum Depth 5" (12.7cm). Crown / Feering must be completed by 12 noon. Plot must be completed by 3.30 p.m. Only one assistant at any time allowed to handle horses - otherwise points will be deducted.
Horses must not be left without a handler during the competition.
CLASS 12 - Horticultural Class - Saturday and Sunday - Any tractor under 15 HP. Minimum Depth 5" (12.7cm). Double opening split, start to consist of eight furrows; finish will be the last eight furrows. Maximum of two wheel marks allowed at finish.
SECOND DAY - SUNDAY 23rd OCTOBER
CLASS 2A - Modern Classic Class - Any mounted plough, 2 or more furrows, in production after 31st December 1976 and before 31st December 1992. Plough bodies to be designed for plough at time of manufacture. NO HYDRAULIC ATTACHMENTS. Minimum Depth 7" (17.8 cm). Skimmers must be used. Tractors must have been in production before 31st December 1992.
CLASS 5 - Ferguson T20 Class - Ferguson T20 or any Ford Ferguson model tractors and ploughs. List of eligible tractors and ploughs on page 19 of the Rule Book. Minimum Depth 6" (15.2 cm).
CLASS 11 - Horse Class - Whole Furrow - Minimum Depth 5" (12.7cm). CROWN/FEERING must be completed by 12 noon. Plot must be completed by 3.30 p.m. Only one assistant at any time allowed to handle horses - otherwise points will be deducted. Horses must not be left without a handler during the competition.
MAXIMUM Ploughing Depth is 8½" for ALL Ploughers.
