Consciousness and the Human Experience:
A Dialogue Between Psychology, Philosophy, Spirituality, and the Age of AI
With Juan Ruiz Naupari, Founder and Director of Pneuma Institute
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly capable of imitating human language, reasoning, creativity, and even emotion, an ancient question has taken on new urgency:
What does it actually mean to be conscious?
If a machine can think, communicate, learn, and create, what distinguishes human intelligence from human consciousness? Are we simply the product of our thoughts, memories, and conditioning, or is there something deeper at the core of the human experience?
For centuries, psychology, philosophy, and spiritual traditions have explored questions about consciousness, identity, free will, suffering, meaning, and the nature of the self. Today, the rapid evolution of AI is bringing many of these questions into the public conversation in an entirely new way.
In this thought-provoking talk, Juan Ruiz Naupari, international teacher, and founder of Pneuma Institute, draws upon more than four decades of research into consciousness and human transformation.
Bringing psychology into dialogue with philosophy and the wisdom of ancient spiritual traditions, Juan will explore some of the most profound questions facing humanity:
• What is consciousness, and who is the one who is conscious?
• What distinguishes consciousness from intelligence?
• Are we truly making conscious choices, or are many of our decisions driven by unconscious conditioning?
• What lies beyond the personality and identity we have constructed?
• What can contemporary psychology learn from ancient traditions of self-knowledge?
• Can greater consciousness transform how we relate to ourselves, one another, technology, and the world?
At a time when humanity is creating various forms of artificial intelligence, perhaps a more important challenge is learning to understand and develop our own consciousness.
Rather than asking us to choose between science and spirituality, psychology and philosophy, or technology and ancient wisdom, this conversation invites these different perspectives to meet around one of humanity’s oldest and most important questions:
Who are we, really?
And in an age of artificial intelligence, understanding the answer may matter more than ever.
