Everybody hates Litter
Polmont residents have a Landfill Site on
their doorstep; and light and noise pollution from the flaring where Ineos is still
the biggest producer of plastic in Scotland. The Scottish Government has banned the
use of many single use plastic items, and tried to introduce a return scheme similar to Europe, yet still litter is one of the biggest complaints in local
communities and rubbish litters our streets and rivers. The Forth Estuary at Bo’ness
has millions of nurdles, raw plastic pellets, produced at Grangemouth and plastic waste
along the tideline valley wide. this feeds into the north sea issues of this film
After a profound experience on the Lofoten Islands, filmmaker Steffen Krones from
Dresden begins to build buoys to track the paths of plastic waste through German and
international waters. In the process, he meets scientists and companions who support him
in his project. Steffen travels north with the buoys - a road trip that opens his eyes to the
condition of our waters and the need for substantial change.
