An Evening with Paul Wood
An Evening with Paul Wood
In two spells at Fratton Park, Paul Wood experienced much. A product of the club's youth policy, he was acclaimed by manager Alan Ball as a new-born "star" in 1986, but 18 months later he was sold to Brighton and had spells at Sheffield United and Bournemouth before being brought back to Fratton Park by Jim Smith in 1993. Injuries blighted his second stay, but he played under both Smith and his replacement Terry Fenwick and made getting on for 100 appearances for the club.
In conversation he will tell the story of what it was like to play with Bally's 'gremlins' as a young pro and also how his time at Pompey shaped his career and life. A collection will also be taken on the evening for the charity of Paul's choice.
