Who's Really in Control? Helping Children Navigate Social Media

Mon 7 Jul 2025 8:15 PM - 9:00 PM BST Online, Zoom

Who's in control – you or social media?

Join our free Positive Social parents' session and learn how to help your child make positive, informed choices on social media.

With social media being such a big part of their lives, how can you set appropriate boundaries that actually work? How can you foster an environment where your child feels comfortable sharing their social media experiences with you?

If your child is already on social media – or will be soon – this session is for you.

What we’ll cover:

  • How to create better conversations with your children about social media.
  • Setting boundaries that are practical for your family.
  • Practical technology tips for parents to help manage and support safe social media use.
  • Insights from research and science on social media's impact.
  • Personal actions you can take to positively influence your children's relationship with technology.

Please expect an interactive format with plenty of time for questions.

Is it really free?

Yes! This event is free but we'd welcome donations to help us fund our free sessions in schools across the UK, which help children make better decisions about how they use social media.

Who’s leading the session?

Social media expert Mark Saxby, from the Positive Social charity, and his team have run workshops for more than 10,000 children since 2014. A former BBC and ITV journalist, Mark is also the dad of three children (20, 18 and 11) so understands the pressure on parents.

Positive Social delivers sessions in schools throughout England through its network of schools workers. Find out more at https://positivesocial.org.uk/ or watch highlights of a typical session here.

"My husband and I both enjoyed it and it provided us with a lot of food for thought." Louise Foster, parent.

"The session was really good and will start conversations in lots of households. Well done for all you're doing - it will make a real difference." Matt Parfitt, parent.
