MAP6 Collective, Photography Workshop
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the MAP6 Collective for a weekend, making and editing work guided by four of its members: Richard Chivers, Barry Falk, Chloe Lelliott and Paul Walsh.
Working with the MAP6 Collective we will take you through the conception, making and sequencing of a project, with the weekend workshop culminating in a pop-up exhibition at POST. Learn and experience what it is like to be part of a working photographic collective and the benefits of working collaboratively – the methods, strategies, group dynamics and skills that MAP6 have refined over the past 15 years.

This workshop will be hands on with the emphasis on making work, sharing perspectives, theoretical knowledge and practical photographic skills that range across the entire process of making a collective project. You will experience the power of the collective and will be guided through the process of taking your individual ideas into a group theme, whilst still retaining your unique vision.
It will be an experiential and group interactive workshop where you’ll come away highly motivated with new skills and a deeper understanding about what it means to collaborate creatively.
The workshop is suitable for anyonewho is passionate about making photographs, both professional and amateur, and is interested in broadening their experience by working collectively with other photographers. This is also for photographers who want to gain new practical photographic skills and knowledge of editing, sequencing and curating.

Weekend Workshop Activities:
Day One will start with a brief introduction and a seminar on the MAP6 collective – we will delve into the group dynamics and how we work as a collective. Following this we will venture out in the afternoon on a photowalk in the local area of Hove, to make photographs around a set theme. Each facilitator will be on hand to share personal practical skills and a variety of photographic approaches.
Day Two will begin with a review of the work, before sequencing and printing selected images. These will form a curated exhibition. Throughout we will reference photobooks and other photographers, demonstrating a number of other practical approaches to making pictures. In the evening the workshop will culminate with an exhibition at POST open to the public.
Both days will include interactive experiences, using small groups and the large group, to explore key themes and make collective decisions.
