Pinhole and Alternative Process Workshop
Join pinhole and alternative photography expert Justin Quinnell for a one-day practical workshop exploring alternative processes. Justin has been teaching pinhole photography and camera obscura creation for over 34 years across the world, from working with Mark Ruffalo in Hollywood to remote communities in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The day will begin with a short talk by Justin on his creative practice followed by a full day of activities. Participants will learn about the practicalities of pinhole photography, including pinhole construction, 6-month pinhole exposures, 360-degree imaging, DSLR pinhole and pinhole video, as well as obscura designs.
Participants will also experiment with alternative processes in the POST darkroom, including use of electronic flash with pinhole and turmeric photography.

What the day will include:

· Eyescuras
· Making a pinhole for a DSLR – 35mm
· DSLR pinhole with flash
· DSLR Pinhole video
· Beer can camera construction
· Use of pinhole cameras with outdoor lighting
· Use of pinhole cameras with indoor hand held flash.
· 360 degree toilet roll camera use.
· Construction of Solargraph camera to take home.
All materials are included as well as teas and coffees in the morning and afternoon.

About Justin:
Justin has a BA (Hons) degree in fine art photography from Derby College and was head of an HE College photo department for 4 years, a secondary school teacher for 6 years and has been an associate lecturer at Falmouth University for 20 years.
Born in Bristol in the UK, he is a founding director of the Bristol Community Darkrooms focussing on ‘Photography for wellbeing’ workshops where in 5 years over 1000 primary school students from St Pauls have done ‘science’ workshops at the darkroom.
Considered a world expert in pinhole photography, camera obscuras and (some) experimental photography, Justin has taught worldwide including: The Photographers Gallery, The Martin Parr Foundation, the Science Museum, The British Library, Lacock Abbey, and Lomo New York. He was also ‘pinhole photography consultant’ to the movie ‘The Brothers Bloom’.
His publications include ‘Mouthpiece’ by Dewi Lewis and a text book for primary and secondary education ‘Discovering Light’published by Millgate House.
He has been part of and assisted with the annual Experimental Photography Festival in Barcelona (EXP) since its inception.
