Brighton & Hove Doc Club Screening: Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other + Q & A
Brighton & Hove Doc Club is a new monthly screening series presented by TARA Films in collaboration with POST. The first six-film season, Photography Meets Film, will explore the relationship between still and moving image through feature documentaries directed by, or about photographers. The season runs from September 2026 - February 2027.
The next film in the series is Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other (Modern Films, 2025, Dirs. Jacob Perlmutter & Manon Ouimet, 100 mins). The screening commences at 6.30pm. We will be holding a 30 min Q & A with Directors Manon Ouimet and Jacob Perlmutter. at 8.15pm.
Life, death and making meaning are the heart of a beautiful and often very funny film about Maggie Barrett and Joel Meyerowitz, an ageing artist couple who, after an accident, face the inevitability of impermanence and seek a deep peace in their relationship while they still can.
When artist Maggie Barrett (75) breaks her femur, her husband Joel Meyerowitz (84), a world-famous photographer, becomes her caregiver. In the shadow of mortality, each with a long and dramatic life behind them, the hard truths of life together provoke in Maggie and Joel an attempt to find a shared inner-peace while there is still time.

About TARA Films:
Based in Belfast and Brighton, TARA Films is a production company co-owned by Kathryn Ferguson and Eleanor Emptage. The company was founded in 2018 with debut project Nothing Compares - a documentary about the artist Sinéad O’Connor. Nothing Compares premiered at Sundance (World Cinema Documentary Competition) in January 2022 to critical acclaim, and went on to win multiple international awards. Recent projects include Blue Road - The Edna O’Brien Story (TIFF 2024) directed by Sinéad O’Shea, and short drama Nostalgie directed by Kathryn Ferguson, which premiered at BFI London Film Festival 2025.
