Description
Join this fabulous focused weekly pottery throwing course to master the skills and techniques of wheel-thrown pottery. With teaching and learning expertly tailored to your requirements, this course is mindfully led by passionate potter and professional teacher, Susie, from Pots of Hope. Conveniently located at The Ugly Duckling Pottery and Coffee Shop in central Newbury from 7pm - 9pm on Monday evenings, these are personalised classes for a small group of up to six students. Designed for you as a beginner or an improver looking to progress using the wheel in a relaxed and enjoyable small group setting this 5-week programme includes demonstrations, instructions, bespoke individual coaching and tuition balanced with the opportunity to practice centring, coning up, compressing, opening, lifting vessel walls with consistency and throwing a wide range of shapes as well as trimming and glazing your selected pieces.
This course includes:
1). All tuition, materials, use of tools and equipment with exclusive use of a potter's wheel per person each week and the standard ticketing fee are covered by the price of £230, with the exception of a nominal additional charge of £5 for each piece you select to fire to stoneware at the end of the course (depending on the dimensions - pieces over 15cm are an additional £5 for every 5cm) in contribution towards kiln firing expenses.
2). The exclusive use of Potter's wheels which in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions are not suitable for people with pacemakers.
3). A request that you please email to check in with and inform Susie regarding any additional needs you may wish to make us aware of prior to or when booking.
4). The café / licenced bar at The Ugly Duckling will be open for refreshments for course participants only during course hours.
5). Please note that a ticketing fee of £3 is included in the price of this course which is non-refundable in any circumstances. In the event of cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the course begins no fees are refundable. In the event of Susie needing to cancel a session an alternative date or refund for that session will be offered to you.
6). You are advised to dress for mess and bring an apron, a notebook and pen, a small, sealed plastic box in which to store your pots between sessions if you'd like to. Otherwise, there is a central storage box available to everyone.
7). Please be prepared for some fun, and also to lend a hand with cleaning, tidying and packing away the equipment at the end of each session.
