Description
Join a fabulous focused weekly pottery throwing course to master the skills and techniques of wheel-thrown pottery. Teaching and learning are expertly tailored to your own requirements and mindfully led by passionate potter and professional teacher, Susie, from Pots of Hope. Conveniently located at The Ugly Duckling Pottery and Coffee Shop in central Newbury from 7pm - 9pm on Monday evenings, these classes are personalised for a small group of up to six students only. The course is designed for beginners and improvers looking to make progress using the wheel in a relaxed and enjoyable small group setting. It includes demonstrations, instructions, individual coaching and tuition balanced with the opportunity to practice centring, coning up, compressing, opening, lifting vessel walls and throwing a wide range of shapes as well as trimming and glazing your selected pieces.
Please be aware this course includes:
1). All materials and use of tools and equipment during the course with the exception of a nominal additional charge of £5 for each piece you choose to fire at the end of the course (depending on the dimensions - pieces above 15cm are an additional £5 for every 5cm - this purely contributes to kiln expenses.
2). The use of Potter's wheels which in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions are not suitable for people with pacemakers.
3). A request that you please email to check in and inform Susie regarding any additional needs you may wish to make us aware of prior to or when booking.
4). The café / bar at The Ugly Duckling will be open for refreshments during the course.
5). Please note that a ticketing fee of £3 is included in the price of this course which is non-refundable in any circumstances. In the event of cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the course begins no fees are refundable. In the event of Susie needing to cancel a session an alternative date or refund for that session will be offered to you.
6). You are advised to dress for mess and bring an apron, a notebook and pen, a small, sealed plastic box in which to store your pots between sessions if you'd like to. Otherwise, there is a central storage box available to everyone.
7). Please be prepared for some fun, and also to lend a hand with cleaning, tidying and packing away the equipment at the end of each session.
