Deer Rut Safaris at Powderham Castle
Multiple dates and times
Powderham Castle, EX6 8JQ
Description
Situated on the western bank of the Exe Estuary, Powderham Castle has been home to the Courtenay family for over six hundred years; for much longer the site has hosted a unique diversity of wildlife. Join Lady Devon for a rare opportunity to explore the ancient deer park on a safari ride and see the herd of fallow deer, which have lived here for four centuries.
At this special time of year, witness the male bucks challenge each other to win the most desirable mates and see the park’s ancient oaks and the bucks in their majestic autumn grandeur. There will be an intense atmosphere within the deer herd and it may be possible to witness the rutting battles between the bucks. It is a wonderful occasion to see the herd up close and enjoy the magnificent flora and fauna of the wooded park and lakes. We recommend bringing a pair of binoculars so you can appreciate the details, and a camera too!
Why not take this unique opportunity to discover the rich history of the Powderham estate, the Courtenay family’s passion for conservation, and the intricate balance of nature that unfolds within the magnificent grounds. After the safari you will return to the Castle to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, remember cream on first!
