Neighbourhood Village

Sat 21 Jun 2025 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM Ellington Park, CT11 9TL

Welcome to the Neighbourhood Village. Populated by the charities, community groups, and local organisations that are working hard to make Thanet a great place to live - come and say hello! 👋

WIBN

Come and say hello at the WIBN Tent—whether you’d like to chat, connect, or join in one of our inspiring workshops, we’d love to meet you!

The Women in Business Network (WIBN) has been thriving in Kent for the past three years, with vibrant groups now established across the county. Katherine Vass, as the local franchisee, has had the pleasure of connecting women from diverse professional backgrounds, sparking collaborations, friendships, and driving robust business growth.

Here in Thanet, our group is a dynamic mix of business owners, professionals, and sole traders who come together monthly to share updates, celebrate successes, and support one another in a warm and welcoming environment. We’re proud to be part of the POW Thanet community and are delighted to support Pow In The Park this year.

Oasis Domestic Abuse
Oasis is our local domestic abuse service which exists to support anyone who is being harmed behind closed doors, no matter who they are. They provide safe accommodation, emotional support, court support, hospital support, and educational programmes and mentoring that empower adults and children of all ages to feel safe, recover and rebuild their lives after abuse. They also provide specialist training in the community and to professionals, spreading the message that love shouldn't hurt.

Thanet Girls Can Network
The Thanet Girls Can Network aims to support women and girls to take part in sport and physical activity and to have equal opportunities to live an active life in Thanet. We want to close the “enjoyment gap”, so more women and girls are taking part in movement that they enjoy.
Our work focuses on four main action areas created by the national This Girl Can campaign: making sure activities are Social, Suitable, Self-Affirming, and Safe.

We want to chat to women and girls to share information on what activities and sports are already out there, and to find out what, if anything, is stopping you from getting involved.

MARGATE BOOKIE
Margate Bookie, the friendly litfest by the sea, brings its love of reading and writing to Ramsgate for POW! in the Park. Come say hello and find out about our volunteer programme and how you can get involved in a fun, creative and bookie festival. We also have a children’s book nook, where families can read much-loved stories together.

Margate Bookie will host story-times at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm. These will be a mix of new and old classics as well as stories by local authors including Em Cosh (Kip and the Squiggledoodle) and Julie Leonard (William, the strongest caterpillar in the world). There will be story-times, singalongs, dances and drawing. Sessions are suitable for ages 3+.

Paddle Media CIC and Strange Tourist
Thanet culture and lifestyle newsletter and website Strange Tourist has partnered up with Paddle Media CIC to make journalism accessible and fun for young, curious minds. Throughout the day, we’ll make a POW! in the Park newspaper to capture all the day’s highlights - and we need help to do so. As a Paddle Press journalist, you’ll get a run down on what makes a good story and the key ingredients before you go forth to sniff out your own, armed with tips on how to get the juiciest goss. Best suited for children aged 7-15, but still come by if you’re older than that and thinking about a career in writing. Or you can just pop by to say hello and find out more about both projects. Paddle Media CIC works to create pathways into journalism for young people in Thanet and to creatively engage children with the profession.

Beyond the Page
Beyond the Page will join the celebration of creativity and community at this year's POW in the Park festival on Saturday, June 21, at Ellington Park, Ramsgate. The organisation will present interactive activities highlighting migration experiences in Kent, with a focus on the women they support.

Visitors to the Beyond the Page area can expect:

  • Interactive activities highlighting women's migration journeys
  • Information about the organisation's support services
  • Opportunities to speak with staff, volunteers, and the organisation’s ambassadors
  • Educational resources about migration in Kent

Beyond the Page's exhibition will feature personal stories offering festival attendees more insight into the challenges and achievements of migrant women locally. Staff, volunteers, and ambassadors from the organisation will be present to engage and share the organisation’s work and impact of their services.

“Our work is not just about learning English; it’s about confidence, participation, and celebrating the cultural richness migrant women bring to Thanet. We believe when everyone has a voice, the whole community benefits.” Jo Verney (Co-CEO – Beyond the Page).

The Margate School
This summer, POW in the Park welcomes a vibrant, welcoming, and affirming creative space brought to life by The Margate School—an independent art school known for its deeply rooted commitment to creative communities and accessible, cross-disciplinary learning. Join us for an afternoon of accessible and supportive crafts led by local artist and poet Ann Lloyd, also known as Chintzy Bunting, alongside Still and Moving Image student and photographer
Sinead Le Blond. Together, they bring a practice grounded in care, collaboration, and the celebration of community histories.
