The Practical Theatre Company presents a night of hilarious, topical standup comedy featuring Emilia Barrosse.
It will be a happy homecoming for Evanston-born comedian Emilia Barrosse, who’s returning to Studio5 in Evanston on May 13 and 14 for a special two-night stand-up comedy event staged by The Practical Theatre Company.
Emilia was born in Evanston but spent most of her life in Woodland Hills, Calif., before returning to Northwestern for college. After that, she spent years in comedy – from working as the youngest staff writer on the hit HBO show “VEEP” and truTV’s Tacoma FD, to performing stand-up across the country. Emilia is known to Studio5 audiences for opening several PTC shows, including Mr. Olsen's Holiday Party and Mr. Olsen's Champagne Celebration.
Emilia will be joined by award-winning and multi-talented comedian Carla Collins and veteran comedy festival performer Josh di Donato, an unsung pioneer of the alternative comedy movement in Los Angeles.
Collins, the Southern California Motion Picture Council’s “Comedian of the Year,” also won an LA Film Award for best supporting actress in December, and has appeared in movies and TV shows including “Carlawood” on Amazon Prime and “Murder, Anyone?”
Di Donato produced a series of comedy shows in the 1990s at Largo, which became one of the essential places in Los Angeles to see comedy. He has opened for Sarah Silverman, Mitch Hedberg, Zach Galifianakis, Dave Chappelle, Maria Bamford, Janeane Garofalo, Marc Maron, David Cross, Margaret Cho, Patton Oswalt and many more.
The Saturday May 13th show will be hosted by Paul Barrosse and runs from 8 to 10 p.m.
The Sunday May 14th show will be hosted by Dana Olsen and runs from 6 to 8 pm.
Both shows are at Studio5, 1938 Dempster Street in Evanston.
