Staged by Robert Binder
Musical direction by Paul Salter
Choreography by Arlene Chertoff
Set designed by Roxane Goodkin-Levy
The production is preceded by a balletic prologue showing how years earlier Little Buttercup mistakenly switched the babies entrusted to her, so that “Ralph is really the Captain, and the Captain is Ralph.”
H.M.S. Pinafore is a perennial favorite in the G&S canon. Ever since its first production in 1878, it has been performed thousands of times all over the world.
In the United States, it started a “Pinafore mania” with seven productions running simultaneously on New York stages.
The current production represents Encore’s outstanding talents in a delightful evening of entertainment.
